Lessons on a grand piano at my home studio in East Singapore
Annual student recitals to encourage and showcase talents
Playing the piano is a lifelong skill—one that goes far beyond learning notes on a page. Through music, students develop not only musical understanding, but also commitment, perseverance, and focus. It is a journey with its ups and downs, but with encouragement from teachers, family, and peers, it becomes a deeply rewarding experience.
Starting at a young age brings many benefits, while also requiring the involvement of parents. Daily practice is essential for progress, but it does not come easily at first and can be challenging for both parent and child. Over time, however, the rewards become evident. I have seen firsthand the pride and confidence that grow when a student, after a week of persistent effort, is finally able to play a section they once found difficult. Learning how to practise is, in itself, a skill—and one that I guide my students to develop with patience and consistency.
Every student is motivated differently. For some, the excitement of learning new music inspires them. For others, the joy of sharing what they can play with family and friends becomes their driving force. And for many, especially in Singapore, examinations provide a clear and meaningful goal. As a teacher, I respect these individual motivations and tailor my lessons to support each student’s personal journey and achievements.
